GIANNI Zuiverloon did not take long to get up to speed with the demands of the Premier League.
He was named man-of-the-match after his home debut for West Bromwich Albion, an achievement made even more impressive considering he wasn't even fully operating on British time.
The young Dutch full-back only returned from the Olympic Games on Monday and a week of sleepless nights and jet-lag had blighted the Dutchman's preparation for the game against Everton.
Although Albion supporters loved what they saw, Zuiverloon promised there was far to come.
WEST Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray is set to turn to some of the men on the fringe of his first-team squad for the trip to face Hartlepool in the Carling Cup second round tomorrow night.
Luke Moore, fit again following a minor thigh problem, is set to feature with Baggies boss Mowbray expected to favour players who were not involved in international action last week. However, he is adamant it will still be a Premier League-strength line-up.
Marek Cech, Carl Hoefkens, Roman Bednar, Craig Beattie, Sherjill MacDonald, Pedro Pele and Dean Kiely could all come into contention to start at Victoria Park.
WEST Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray has tipped his two youngest strikers to come of age in the Premier League.
The stories behind Ishmael Miller and Luke Moore, England Under-21 internationals both, are similar.
The failure to make a lasting impact at their former Premier League clubs has left them hungry to prove people wrong and, now that Albion are back on the stage they believe they belong, their manager is eager to see them grasp the opportunities before them.
"I hope all the strikers get off the mark in the next few weeks and the midfield players are threatening to score," said Mowbray.
TONY Mowbray has paid tribute to Dean Kiely's professionalism following Scott Carson's elevation into Albion's first-team.
The England keeper played in goal for Albion in last Saturday's game at Arsenal, forcing Dean Kiely on to the subs' bench.
Kiely, aged 37, had been the club's undisputed No.1 for the last 18 months, but will play second fiddle to Carson for the forseeable future.
Baggies boss Mowbray admitted Kiely had responded well to the blow of losing his first-team place.
"It was a close call," said Mowbray, regarding his decision to opt for Carson.
TONY Mowbray has predicted a bright future for Leon Barnett after the young defender came through his first Premier League game with 'flying colours'.
The 22-year-old grew in confidence during the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal, enjoying the better of his exchanges with Emmanuel Adebayor.
Mowbray remains on the look-out for a new centre-half but feels Barnett is clearly capable of stepping up to the top flight and maintaining his early promising form,
"I thought Leon was a big positive," said Mowbray.
